Peak Performance | Trust Parka

by Pascal Rohé

The history of the Swedish company Peak Performance goes back quite some years; in 2016, they will be celebrating their 30th birthday. The company has its roots in ski sports, a discipline where performance and design have always gone hand in hand. That was the case 30 years ago, and it still plays an important role in the sports-clothing industry today. Nevertheless, it is only a few brands that succeed in combining what is functional and what looks good–from an aesthetic point of view. The Urban Collection from Peak Performance is a good example of how the Swedes have mastered this balancing act.

The Trust Parka

We’ve taken the opportunity to have a closer look at the Trust Parka from Peak Performance’s Urban Collection.

To all appearances, the Trust is a classic slim-cut trench-coat-style parka, but there is a lot more to it. Actually, it’s a 3-in-1 jacket. The base layer is a detachable bomber-style jacket which uses Thermacool® to provide a dual regulation. Thermacool® is remarkable in that it warms in cool temperatures and cools in warm temperatures. It really works well, giving you the freedom of wearing it as a separate jacket. Alternately, the front zipper connects the inner jacket with the outer jacket, which has an additional layer of Thermacool® insulation. Also, the outer jacket has a double-layer Gore-Tex® design with fully-taped seams making it 100% wind- and waterproof, ideal for cold, ugly winter days.

There are two large side pockets at hip level for your hands or gloves. Two front pockets with hidden press buttons offer additional room for your wallet or cell phone. The hood is lined and cut wide but can be adjusted with a drawstring cord. And, as that little something extra, Peak Performance has integrated reflective straps into the lower hem which can be pulled out when needed, for example, when cycling. Which makes for a nice and also useful detail. Also, I especially like the high collar, which extends above the chin and protects the neck area from both wind and cold.

The Trust Parker from Peak Performance is an example of the successful combination of functionality and design. It has a timeless cut that will still look good and fashionable in 5 years time. Made from the high-performance materials Thermacool® and Gore-Tex®, the Trust Parka is not only exceptionally light, it is also a hi-tech jacket that will keep you warm and dry throughout the winter. Plus, the inner jacket can be worn separately giving you the flexibility of wearing the Trust Parka even in the milder spring days.

So, keep an eye on Peak Performance’s Urban Collection; I’m quite sure we’re going to see some more great pieces.
