14 Mrz Our favourite waterproof jackets for spring

I love spring. Nature wakes from her winter sleep and the first warm rays of sunlight bring the promise of warmer days. But you can’t celebrate too soon. The mild daytime temperatures often give way to bitter cold nights. Plus the weather remains unpredictable, cold winds and sudden showers reminding us that winter is not quite over yet. And that’s why it’s so important to have the right clothing, clothing that protects you from wind and rain, but at the same time not too warm.

So it’s about time to start layering up. We want to take this opportunity to introduce our favourite waterproof jackets for spring.

Aether – Beacon Shell
The Beacon Shell has it all. It’s waterproof, breathable, seam sealed, and wind resistant. The classic, slim-flitting silhouette is constructed of a 3-layer, twill-weave fabric with a two-way center front zipper for ease of movement. Design details include adjustable hood and cuffs, chest and hand pockets, and interior zippered pockets that provide a convenient place to store small necessities. The Beacon is a great-looking, functional, lightweight jacket for the guy on the go.

And Wander – Trek Jacket
The Trek Jacket from the Japanese brand And Wander is extreme lightweight using a water repellent fabric. The jacket is characterized by a simple and clean design and has pre-formed arms and two large chest pockets. Made in Japan.

Arc’teryx 24 – Ames Jacket
Gore-Tex protection, Coreloft insulation, and a refined urban minimalism come together in the Ames Jacket, a warm, waterproof, breathable shell for cool, wet urban environments. The Gore-Tex fabric has a uniquely soft, supple feel, and the Coreloft delivers warmth without bulk. The fit is trim and articulated to move with the body, and the StowHood provides full-coverage protection but tucks cleanly into the collar when not needed.

Coldsmoke – Cruiser Jacket
The Cruiser Jacket is technical but tactile, thanks to a rare, wax-impregnated, water and wind repellant, Japanese military cloth. Coldsmoke lined it with Polartec performance terry, so it’s warm enough to be worn on it’s own during the shoulder seasons. And with oversize waterproof chest zipper pockets, it has secure and easy access storage for large smart-phones and small tablets. For extra comfort, warmth and refinement, Coldsmoke trimmed the collar and lined the removeable hood with Bedford sanded corduroy. Made in California.

Everlane – Element Jacket
Everlane represents the theory that there are two types of performance jackets, the one that makes you look like a rock climber and the kind that cost a month’s rent, so they came up with a third option: The Elements Jacket. The waterproof 3-layer triple-bonded fabric has mechanical stretch and a soft matte finish. Every stitched seam is heat-bonded and taped shut to keep rain from soaking through. Breathable, stretchy fabric and gusseted raglan sleeves with underarm vents allow for more motion and airflow.

F/CE x Rab – TravelJK

On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of F/CE, this special project has been developed in collaboration with the British outdoor label Rab. With a shell made of eVent, this jacket is not only waterproof but also very breathable. Typical for the TravelJK is the simple yet modern design of F/CE.

Mission Workshop – The Eiger Ultralight Jacket
Misson Workshop’s take on a traditional field coat with four front pockets and a mid length hem. Constructed with ultralight Polartec NeoShell fabric, the Advanced Projects Eiger is transformed into a super light layer that can pack down and stow when the sun comes out. This highly breathable, weatherproof fabric is engineered to react to changes in body temperature and activity levels, allowing more moisture and heat to escape as the temperatures rise. Made in Canada.

MofM – Extreme Shell Jacket
MofM’s 3-layer Extreme Shell Jacket provides complete waterproof and windproof protection. Not only it would support all kinds of activities like fly-fishing, hiking and other action sports, but also would look extremely good in the city. The designer, Masakazu Fukuyama, is a professional fly-fisherman (Megabass), and has tested each product by Mt.Tanigawa in Minakami, Japan.

Narifuri – NF715 Pull Breaker
Actually the pull breaker has been developed for the bicycle community, but the elegant design and the outstanding features make the jacket a good all-rounder for the urban environment as well as trips into nature. A double zipper provides excellent ventilating properties.

Tilak – Odin Jacket
Due to well balanced mechanical resisitance, weatherproofnes and breathability, suitable for all outdoor purposes. The large front pocket offers a smaller integrated phone pocket. The performance of the used Ventile fabric results from the properties of cotton fibres which expand when they come into contact with water. The combination of fibres, yarns and weave causes expansion in a uniform manner. This allows the interstices within the fabric to close up, preventing the further passage of wind and water.
